Program soccer players

REGISTRATION
WE STILL HAVE OPENINGS FOR PLAYERS in every age bracket, but we may
impose a wait list for applications submitted after March 15. We will
continue to let kids enroll, but only until all spots are filled (equal
to the number of t-shirts we order). If you know of any friends,
neighbors or other folks looking to still enroll, please have them visit
our website at www.attleborosoccer.com and download a form. Have them
send the registration to our P.O. Box, but also send an e-mail to
ays_recreation@attleborosoccer.com so we keep a placeholder for their
kids in the system.
ALSO, WE STILL DO NEED COACHES and ASSISTANT COACHES. If you know of
anyone who can help with games, please think of nominating them to us.
We especially are recruiting assistant coaches to help coaches and would
like to have at least one assistant coach per team.
BIRTH CERTIFICATES
If your child is new to Attleboro Youth Soccer or you have never filed a
birth certificate, we do need it now. In order to be consistent with
league guidelines, we are to have a birth certificate for every player.
If you have not yet sent your child's certificate in, please do forward
yours to P.O. Box 641, Attleboro, MA 02703 as soon as you can.
LOCATION OF FIELDS
If you are new to soccer in Attleboro, the Recreation Program games are
held in the Dodgeville Fields off South Main Street (Route 152) south of
the center of Attleboro, across from St. Stephen’s Church. The spring
sessions are scheduled for lower Dodgeville. Please be sure to leave
ample time to find parking when coming to the fields. Please also do
not park in the St. Stephen’s parking lot or on any private property
adjacent to the fields. Please do note that there is plenty of parking
in the tennis courts on the other side of the pool at the fields...
EQUIPMENT
It is mandatory that all soccer players wear shin guards for every
game. You should be able to buy age-appropriate shin guards at local
sporting good stores. If you find it financially-difficult to obtain
these, please contact me as noted below and I will see if we have extras
in our equipment storage.
Beyond the shin guards, it is recommended that kids wear soccer
socks and up to parents whether you want to provide cleats. We will
provide each child with a team t-shirt before the regular season begins.
BRING A BALL
When your kids do come to preseason or in-season sessions, they should
bring their own ball. Although coaches may have extra balls available,
your child should make it a habit to have his/her own ball at every
session. In order to learn the game, he/she needs to have his/her own
ball at home to practice some of the moves learned in the sessions. We
will schedule a ball distribution time in the future for any parent that
finds it financially difficult to get an age-appropriate ball.
PRESEASON
We plan on having two preseason skill-building sessions in April
dependent on the weather. The preseason sessions are currently
scheduled for April 6th and April 13th.
The skill building sessions are set up so that kids can shake off
the winter cobwebs and have group practice sessions prior to the April
20 beginning of the seven-week season. During both the preseason and
the regular season, supercoaches will direct kids as they progress from
one station to another around the soccer fields. The preseason and
regular season sessions will be on Sunday afternoons.
REGULAR
SEASON
There will
be seven scheduled games beginning the weekend of April 20.
Teams have
not been assigned yet since we are still recruiting coaches and there is
no need for teams during the preseason. We anticipate having coaches
recruited and children assigned to teams during mid-April. Once
assigned, coaches will contact parents to arrange distribution of your
child’s t-shirt.
RAIN
POLICY
If the
forecast calls for steady rain or the fields are unplayable in the
opinion of the AYS Recreation Director, the games may be cancelled. A
notice about the cancellation of games will be put on the Attleboro
Youth Soccer website – www.attleborosoccer.com – website as early as
possible (usually by 9 A.M.). An additional message will be placed on
the soccer hotline at (508) 226-7627, but we ask that only coaches call
this number to limit the number of calls to the hotline.
DOG
POLICY
Although we may personally like dogs, we cannot allow any dogs,
except for seeing eye dogs, on the Dodgeville or Poncin-Hewitt Fields,
or in the parking lots, even if leashed due to the number of children
who play on the fields. Although we understand that certain breeds may
be gentle, we need to enforce this policy for all dogs. Please refrain
from bringing dogs and please understand if a league volunteer asks you
to remove a dogs from the fields.
MISCELLANEOUS
We do not
schedule team pictures for the spring 4v4 league but will have them in
the fall.
We will
have online and regular registrations for our fall league but only after
the spring season begins. You should see flyers announcing the fall
registrations sometime in the middle of May.
Thanks in advance for all the times you will be bringing your kids
to practices and games. In the time that I have been a coach for my
son’s soccer teams, I have had some of my most memorable experiences.
We want to work with you to make it a memorable season.
If you have questions, please e-mail
ays_recreation@attleborosoccer.com and someone will get in touch
with you.
